The guiding principles of the Mission Committee are: Communicating mission opportunities to the congregation for their participation supporting by work, prayer and giving; Helping the sick, poor and oppressed reaching beyond the temporal and Promoting the message of the Gospel in Jesus Christ by whom comes faith and salvation, Remembering the words of Micah 6:8, "What does the Lord require of you, but To love justice, Do mercy, and Walk humbly with God."
Local Mission:
Campus Ministries: Black Hills State University, Spearfish, SD SD School of Mines & Technology, Rapid City SD Supporting student Bible studies, special workshop events, fun activities, work/learning trips and other ministries on campus.
Church Response Fund: Operated by the Ministerial Association of Sturgis, this fund may provide utilities and housing, food, fuel, emergency services or medication, emergency lodging for transient and needy people in the area.
Crisis Intervention Shelter Service: Provides a safe house for women and children of domestic abuse along with counseling and career assistance.
Community Pantry: Provides primarily nonperishable food for low-income residents of Meade County and also may provide school supplies, gardening supplies and clothing.
Corner Stone Mission & Corner Stone Women's Mission: Rapid City, SD Providing food, shelter and counseling for the homeless.
Habitat for Humanity: Builds houses for low-income families in the Black Hills.
Sturgis Area Child Protection Team (Child Help Fund): Provides for special needs for children who are under the care of or receiving assistance from the Department of Social Services. Services include diapers for neglected/abused infants removed from their homes in an emergency, medications, activity tickets, birthday gifts, etc. Also used to purchase educational materials on parenting for the local library.
Sturgis School Nurse: Usually provides clothing for children, but could be used for an assortment of emergency needs for children.
National and International Mission:
Medical Benevolence Foundation Presbyterian Church USA Partnership with the Presbyterian Church in supporting medical mission work outside the USA.
We mobilize congregations to participate with God in bringing good news of the kingdom into cultures where the church has yet to take root. AIDS Consultant in Central and West Africa Responding to the needs of parner churches and institutions in the face of this devastating AIDS crisis in Africa. Carol Weinberg - consultant.
Malawi Hospitals in Africa: Offering medical care and training to area residents.
Heifer Project International: Since 1944 this program has provided an animal(s) to a family to begin sustaining themselves and the offspring are passed to another family for their use.
One Great Hour of Sharing: An international fund drive to provide disaster assistance to victims world wide providing immediate help and relocation or rebuilding help.
Pentecost Offering: Since 1998 this offering has supported youth at risk. 40% of the money collected stays with the local church, the General Assembly's 60% supports faith focused youth ministires in the USA and throughout the world.
Peace Offering: This special offering supports the peacemaking effort of the church at every governing body level: 25% statys with the local church for its own peacemaking ministry, 25% is for support of the presbytery and synod efforts, 50% goes to the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program of the General Assembly.
